Who said “Nobody Wants This”? The SAG Awards certainly do.
Kristen Bell, fresh off a Golden Globe best comedy actress nomination for her Netflix series “Nobody Wants This,” will host the 31st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, Feb. 23. For a second time, Netflix will stream the ceremony live (8 p.m. ET/ 5 PT) from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
“Thrilled to be hosting the SAG Awards again this year,” said Bell, who is married to actor and podcaster Dax Shepard, in a statement issued by the guild. “I’m honored to be asked back and can’t wait to share the evening with my fellow actors, doing what we do best … celebrating ourselves.”
Bell ended the statement with a smiley face emoji.
When are the SAG Award nominations announced?
Bell, who last hosted the awards in 2018, follows 2024’s de facto host Idris Elba. Nominees for this year’s awards for top movies and TV shows, which are voted on by members of the screen actors’ union, will be announced Jan. 8.
Last week’s Golden Globe nominations raise SAG hopes for top Globe nominees such as “Emilia Pérez” (10 nominations), “The Brutalist” (seven) and “Conclave” (six). In TV, the FX series “The Bear” leads the Globe field (five nominations) followed by “Only Murders in the Building” and “Shōgun” (four each).
Bell and “Nobody Wants This” co-star Adam Brody also have reasons to be optimistic. Their show, which chronicles the love affair between a rabbi and his gentile girlfriend, scored three Globe nominations: best musical or comedy TV series, and best acting nods for Brody and Bell. (Not that the competition won’t be stiff. At last year’s SAG Awards, “The Bear” cleaned up all three of those categories.)
