Scotty McCreery reflects on 13 years since American Idol win and celebrates Grand Ole Opry induction with new music and lasting success

On May 25, 2011, a young 17-year-old crooner named Scotty McCreery became the youngest male winner of the vocal competition show American Idol. Crowned at the end of the show’s 10th season, the singer went on to launch quite an illustrious career in music. McCreery took home the win after performing stunning renditions of “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry, “Check Yes Or No” by George Strait, and his original song “I Love You This Big”.

McCreery originally auditioned for the show in Milwaukee when he was only 16 years old. His renditions of “Your Man” by Josh Turner and “Put Some Drive In Your Country” by Travis Tritt won the hearts of judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler. After his win, McCreery would enter an incredibly successful career in country music.

After Scotty McCreery took home the win on American Idol, he released his debut album Clear As Day in October. The album was an enormous country success and became certified platinum in the US. The singles “The Trouble With Girls” and “I Love You This Big” became Top 20 hits. For McCreery, it was only up from there.

Following his debut, McCreery released his Christmas album in 2012. His third record, the 2013 effort See You Tonight, produced a title track that would become his very first single to reach the Top 10 on the country charts.

McCreery would continue to dominate the 2010s by setting a record in 2017. With the song “Five More Minutes”, McCreery became the first country artist to chart a song without the support of a record label. It topped the Billboard charts through 2018. Later that year, his fourth album would again reach the Top 10 in the US.

So, what’s Scotty McCreery been up to in the 2020s following his American Idol success? In 2021, he released his fifth album, Same Truck. The single “It Matters To Her” peaked at no. 3 on the Country Airplay chart. McCreery released “Cab In A Solo” in 2023, along with his 90s country-esque record Rise & Fall. In 2024, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
