Fans have praised Pamela Anderson for going make-up free at the Oscars after she ditched her signature glam look for a heartbreaking reason.

The 56-year-old Baywatch star wowed at the Vanity Fair afterparty following the 96th Academy Awards last night (10 March).

She donned a stunning floral, floor-length dress that featured yellow and purple flower motifs with her blonde locks falling loosely by her shoulders.

Fans have since rushed to social media to share their praise for the Hollywood icon going make-up free, with one X user writing: “She looks amazing!”

“Beautiful!” gushed a second, while a third echoed: “Wow beautiful!”

A fourth chimed in: “She looks great!”

“She is so naturally stunning,” echoed a fifth, “like how do people just look like this?”

“Such a babe!” added another, while a final X user commented: “Pam Anderson will Always be BEAUTIFUL!”

Damn straight.

This is by no means the first time the actor has gone makeup-free, as she was also seen without any beauty products during Paris Fashion Week last autumn (28 September) and at the 2023 Fashion Awards red carpet a couple months back (4 December).

The icon has regularly rocked a glowing bare-faced look and, while it shouldn’t be a big deal whatsoever if celebs decide to wear makeup or not during public events, it’s clear it’s sadly very much not the norm.

Pamela previously opened up about the reason as to why she’s scaled back her signature bombshell makeup look, telling Elle Magazine last August that it came shortly after a huge personal loss.

After losing her close friend and makeup artist, Alexis Vogel, to breast cancer in 2019, Pamela made the decision to leave her iconic look behind.

“She was the best,” the mum-of-two shared. “And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.”

Anderson also revealed that ditching the makeup look that helped skyrocket her to fame was actually a welcomed change, telling the outlet the novel experience was ‘freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious, too’.

“I did notice that there were all these people doing big make-up looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite of what everyone’s doing,” she explained.

How many of us have headed out for the day having put on a full face of makeup although we know, deep down, we’d rather go without it?

Imagine spending the day being able to rub your eyes whenever you want, without the threat of thick black smears all over your face.

Yet, for a lot of women, the sometimes unspoken but very prevalent societal pressure of always needing to ‘look good’ is a crushing weight on our shoulders, often too hard to ignore, and so we bow to the pressure.

And that’s why, when Pamela Anderson – a global symbol of sex appeal and beauty, known for her signature smoky eye makeup and accentuated lips – decided to go completely makeup free last year, it was a breath of fresh air to women everywhere.

Anderson was made famous by modelling for Playboy and acting in Baywatch, two things which showcase her obvious talent in different ways, yet were dominated by the male gaze and conversations around her often, if not always, boiled down to her perceived attractiveness.

Ever since Anderson landed in the public eye, men have lauded her as the ultimate sex symbol and women have tried to adopt her makeup routine. This was revived again after the broadcast of Pam & Tommy in 2022, a drama chronicling the life and love of Anderson and Tommy Lee.

Being the queen that she is, Anderson turned all of this reignited attention on its head in September 2023, arriving totally makeup-free at Paris Fashion Week.

Anderson’s initial reason for the change was heartbreaking, explaining that she arrived at the decision to leave makeup behind after the tragic loss of her close friend and makeup artist Alexis Vogel in 2019.

“I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup”, she stated last year.

recent interview with Highsnobiety checks back in with Anderson for a fresh perspective on life without the cosmetic glam, and it’s something not many people would expect.

Anderson admitted that her signature look which catapulted her to fame was completely inauthentic to her.

“I was actually always a tomboy growing up,” she explained. “I never wanted to wear a dress. I was athletic. I made mud pies.”

The reason why the star adopted this look and stuck with it despite it not being an accurate reflection of who she truly was comes down to one thing: success.

She explained: “We all get roped into, ‘Oh, I want to be successful so I can have this and this, and show people that I’m cool, chic, admired.

“And then we’re all just left with debt and a fancy car. It’s just like chasing age. You’re not going to win. A life is less conclusive than that.”

While Anderson’s makeup free era might have taken a while to sink in for some people – including her sons Brandon Thomas and Dylan Jagger who were apprehensive about the whole thing – women from all walks of life let out a collective sigh.

One X user remarked: “I love seeing pictures of Pamela Anderson without makeup because she looks so friggin’ happy.”

Another weighed in, adding: “I seriously love that Pamela Anderson is going to red carpet events without any makeup & is still looking like a beauty.”

Pamela Anderson praised for makeup-free look after previously opening up on why she's ditching glam

Pamela Anderson has been praised for her gorgeous make-up free look in a new set of snaps, after previously opening up about why she’s ditching the glam vibe.

While she’s best known for glamorous appearance, in recent years, the model, actor and animal rights activist has decided to strip things back, embracing a more natural look – even at star-studded events like 2023 Paris Fashion Week.

Anderson has said the shift in style was rooted in her desire for ‘freedom’, but also revealed there’s another, more heartbreaking, reason behind the simplified beauty routine.

She told Elle that dropping her signature look came shortly after her friend, makeup artist Alexis Vogel, died in 2019, having been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Anderson told the outlet: “She was the best. And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.”

She also claimed that it has been ‘freeing, fun and a little bit rebellious’ to debut a new look, adding: “Because I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite what everyone’s doing.”

And in the spirit of ‘celebrating authenticity’, Anderson has now announced a brand new venture, having joined beauty brand Sonsie Skin as a ‘co-founder new owner’.

Writing about her news on Instagram, she explained: “Sonsie is an emerging, beautiful, vegan & cruelty-free skincare company… with an important message that I want to help share with the world.

“To me, true beauty is about celebrating authenticity… I want to look like myself, feel like myself, and that means taking care of myself – inside and out…

“I believe our differences are what make us beautiful and interesting to one another… The goal is to realize our own purpose on earth… and it starts with believing in ourselves… to have courage… to be what no one else is, and find strength in that – It goes beyond healthy skin.”

She added: “I am so proud to be a part of this world… and on my terms, finally.

“We have so much planned and I cannot wait to share more.

“Just simple, loving skincare for all.”

Anderson later posted a gorgeous make-up free snap, tagging Sonie Skin.

“I took off the mask and the world opened up…” she said in the caption.

Her fans were full of praise for the posts, saying she looked ‘stunning’ and was a ‘light for women everywhere’.

In a poignant comment, one told her: “I love this new chapter and your voice and expression so much. Watching you feels like a treasure.

“I haven’t worn makeup in about ten years. As someone whose face is in the light in different ways – this is actually a part of how I teach.

“Photoshoots, all sorts of things – authenticity and showing the lines of who we are is so important.

“Thanks for hurtling this message into the larger world for women.”

Someone else said: “What a movement @pamelaanderson! I can just feel your whole soul thanking you!!! Like she’s embracing full womanhood, which you’ve always done by the way.”
