Beloved actress and tremendously popular singer Olivia Newton-John died on August 8, 2022, at 73 years old, causing great sorrow to her family, friends, and numerous fans. She left her daughter, sister, brother, nieces, nephews, and husband, John Easterling, who she considered the “love of her life.” The pair developed a unique connection and became companions in their life, love, and advocacy.
Newton-John was born in England on September 26, 1948, before relocating to Australia with her family at the age of five. In the early 1970s, she started her journey in the entertainment field as a singer. Although her records performed well and some of her singles reached high positions on the music charts, she didn’t quite achieve widespread fame.
She achieved superstardom by landing a role in the 1978 musical “Grease” alongside John Travolta. Newton-John’s performance as a naive Australian student yearning for Travolta’s Danny Zuko was very successful, setting records upon its release and achieving both critical acclaim and commercial prosperity. The film’s soundtrack contributed to its success, featuring several notable songs performed by Newton-John, such as “Hopelessly Devoted To You,” “Summer Nights,” and “You’re The One That I Want.”

Then would come “Physical.” The album, along with the title track of the same name, would blow up in 1981 due in part to the provocative lyrics and music video that accompanied the single. Despite the change in her clean-cut image, the public still adored her, and she went on to record more albums with varying degrees of success.

While her romantic life suffered swings and misses much like her career, she hit the love jackpot with her second husband, Easterling, whom she married in 2008.

At every public appearance, Newton-John and Easterling appeared very much in love. They were seen on the red carpet regularly with old friend John Travolta as well as at charity events. For the lovebirds, the match was one of minds and heart, particularly as Easterling was a natural health businessman and Newton-John was struggling with her own health battles.

Newton-John also credited Easterling with helping her fight cancer and said saying in 2019:

“My husband hands me all these herbs every morning and makes me a green algae drink.”

He also gave her medicinal cannabis that “he grows … and makes … into liquid for me. I take drops maybe four to five times a day.”

In announcing his wife’s death, Easterling described Newton-John as “a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years” before urging the public to donate to her cancer research cause.

And just two days after Newton-John’s passing, Easterling posted a heartfelt tribute to his late wife. He wrote:

“Our love for each other transcends our understanding. Every day we expressed our gratitude for this love that could be so deep, so real, so natural. We never had to ‘work’ on it. We were in awe of this great mystery and accepted the experience of our love as past, present and forever.”

He added:

“It is only the grace of God that has allowed me to share the depth and passion of her being for so long. In her most difficult times she always had the spirit, the humor, and the will power to move things into the light. Even now as her soul soars, the pain and holes in my heart are healed with the joy of her love and the light that shines forward.”

Edward’s personal life is also very understated. Sophie Rhys-Jones, now titled Duchess of Edinburgh, is Edward’s wife. They have been married for more than two decades. He is the only child of the queen and Prince Philip who has remained married. The couple has two children, named Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, who were born together.

Edward is now notably in charge of the Commonwealth Games Federation. He now oversees the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which was established by Prince Philip in 1956, in addition to taking on his father’s responsibilities. Ever since Prince Edward assumed responsibilities from his father, he has traveled extensively around the world in various roles to supervise projects. He has traveled to South Africa, Israel, Baltimore, and numerous other locations.

It’s customary for the royal family to celebrate and commemorate events throughout the year and when it comes to their birthdays, sometimes twice a year. King Charles III has two birthdays celebrated — the day he was born on Nov. 14, 1948, and his “official” birthday in June. This day is marked by the annual Trooping the Colour event.

Normally, the ceremony features over 1,400 parading soldiers, 400 musicians, 200 horses, and many onlookers, according to the royal family’s official website. The parade, which usually starts from Buckingham Palace, also closes with a patriotic showing from the Royal Air Force.

The tradition began with King George II all the way back in 1748. The reason was the weather — King George II’s birthday was in November, which is a terrible month for weather in Britain. In order to best celebrate outdoors, it was decided that a big outdoor celebration would take place in June to take advantage of the better summer weather. Since then, the Trooping the Colour event has taken place in June, regardless of when the ruling monarch’s actual birthday is.

It is also an opportunity for royal fans to see members of the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony, who are dressed up to enjoy the festivities. In 2019, Prince Louis took part in his very first “Trooping The Colour” event, and he was dressed in an outfit that first appeared way back in 1986 by his uncle Prince Harry. He stole the show again at 5 years old in 2023 with his cheeky ways.

Louis’s antics made headlines again for the 2024 event, and he almost upstaged his mother, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, as she made her return to the public eye after announcing she was battling cancer earlier this year.

In 2019, heir to the throne and King Charles III’s son Prince William’s then-5-year-old first-born son Prince George and then-3-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte joined their family on the balcony, but it was their little brother, Prince Louis, who stole the show with his exuberant waving. It was the then 1-year-old’s first Trooping the Colour and it seemed like he was a natural at royal ceremonies.

In 1986, it was Harry’s second Trooping the Colour event, and in old photos, Harry was seen being held by Princess Anne, who donned a gorgeous yellow dress. The Princess of Wales Kate Middleton channeled the same color as she wore a pastel yellow dress in 2019 for the event and even had the same tilt of the hat as Anne. These photos felt like a mirror through time.

Town and Country reported that Louis’s garment choice might have been intentional, as it alluded to the analogy that he was the second brother in the family, much like Harry. When he reaches adulthood, Louis’s royal life and duties may resemble that of Harry’s.

The royal family makes it a point to recycle the clothing that previous generations wore.
