Congratulations are in order for Toby Keith‘s son, Stelen Covel, who’s expecting his first child with his wife, Haley.

Toby had three children with his beautiful wife of nearly 40 years, Tricia Covel. They shared two daughters, Shelley and Krystal, and a son, Stelen.

As the kids grew, got married, and started families of their own, Toby and Tricia thrived in their new roles as grandparents. Krystal has said it’s “hard to find a candid picture where he doesn’t have one of our babies in his arms.”

Sadly, Toby passed away on February 5, 2024, following a years-long battle with stomach cancer. He was 62 years old.

Since then, his kids have gone above and beyond to keep his legacy alive. They’ve attended multiple awards shows and events and frequently pay tribute to him online.

On the first anniversary of his death this year (2025), Stelen honored his father by sharing a candid video of him performing for their family. He captioned it, “A whole year without my hero. Here’s to one day having more of these nights. Love you dad.”

Toby’s death also had a profound impact on his daughter-in-law, Haley Covel. Toby walked her down the aisle when she married Stelen in 2021.

Their wedding occurred not long after Toby received his cancer diagnosis. After learning he had cancer, Toby worried if he’d make it to walk Haley down the aisle. He told Audacy:

“And my son was getting married, and his wife didn’t have a father. And she asked my son, Stelen, if I’d walk her down the aisle. I said ‘sure.’ And now I’m a month away from that, and I’m thinking ‘I might not even make it that far.’ I didn’t know, you know? When you get diagnosed, you just freak.”

But Toby did make it, and it meant the world to Haley that he walked her down the aisle to marry his son. After he passed away, she said:

“I’ll never have the right words to say. Toby was larger than life at home and on stage. It’s a complete honor to be his daughter-in-law. He took me in as his own and I’ll forever be grateful for that. He touched the lives of so many and I’m blessed to be one of those.”

In the midst of their heartache, Stelen and Haley are celebrating some happy news. They’re expecting their first child!

The couple announced their pregnancy on Thursday (February 13). They shared a picture of themselves smiling while Haley held up a series of sonogram photos. Stelen was also wearing a t-shirt with Toby’s picture on the front.

“Baby Covel coming this summer,” they captioned their announcement, which you can see below.
